How to apply for free or reduced-price meals:
  • Gather the necessary information: You will need the names of everyone in your household and the total household income from the previous month. If you receive CalFresh (formerly SNAP), CalWORKs, or Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR), you will also need your case number.
  • Complete the application: The forms may require you to:
    • List all enrolled students and their birthdates.
    • Check a box if any children are foster, homeless, migrant, or runaway.
    • Provide income for all household members, if applicable.
Sign the application, certifying the information is correct.
      Submit the application.
  • Return the completed application to your child's school office.
  • Look for a notification. Your school district will inform you if your application is approved or denied. Eligibility is usually determined on an annual basis, so you must submit a new form each school year unless otherwise notified.
